Governor Mauricio Kuri led the laying of the first stone of the new SIG production plant, which will have an investment of more than 1,600 million pesos and will generate more than 200 direct jobs in the multilayer packaging industry in the food sector.

Eduardo Gatica, SIG's CEO for North America, explained that the plant is expected to start operations in the first quarter of 2023, estimating a production capacity in its initial phase of more than one billion containers per year, a figure that will gradually increase to three billion.
"This project consists of three stages, it is going to be a modular plant in which we will be able to continue the expansion through its different phases, in this first stage an investment of 70 million euros that will allow us to supply the immediate needs of our customers in the North American region. There are 40 million euros in machinery and equipment and a long-term contract with our business partner Aerotech, with an investment in the construction contract of approximately 30 million euros in present value," he said.
This new production plant will occupy an area of 85 thousand square meters, of which 22 thousand are contemplated for the first phase of construction and will contribute to the continued development of the local economy, since the 200 direct jobs in the first phase will increase to 400 by the time the plant is operating at full capacity.
The decision to invest in this new plant, he said, derives from the sustained growth of the region in response to an expansion strategy, choosing Querétaro, among other things, for its highly qualified labor force, geographic location, social peace and security.
The plant will be built based on the sustainability protocols established by the company at a global level, favoring the use of clean energy.
Ricardo Rodríguez, president for the Americas region of SIG, highlighted that the company is a pioneer in the use of sustainable raw materials, as today, 100% of the cardboard used in production is certified.
